It is not always enough to tell your personal injury lawyer and your insurance company that you have been in a car accident, you really need to expound on the type of wreck that it was. You may have different legal options available to you depending on how the accident occurred.

Here is a closer look at various types of collisions and the most common injuries associated with each one:

Side Collisions

Also referred to as side-swipe accident, these accidents occur when two cars collide into each other side-by-side, with one car’s driver’s side crashing into another vehicle’s passenger side.

These collisions typically are the result of cars that are trying to pass each other, but, unintentionally, clash into one another. This sort of accident can result in internal bleeding, broken bones, contusions, and lacerations.

Side Impact Collisions

Also known as “T-bone” crashes, side impact crashes happen when a car has been struck in its side by a vehicle meeting it at a right angle.

This most commonly occurs after an automobile runs a stop sign or red light at an intersection and collides into a car crossing in front of it. Broken bones, back sprain/strain, and even head injuries have been reported as results of these crashes.

Rear-enders

A rear-ender is an accident that happens when one vehicle crashes into another one from behind. These collisions are quite common and usually occur when driving slowly. Still, they have been known to cause serious injuries, even when everyone is wearing a safety belt.

Neck, spinal, and back pain are likely, and many times are attributed to whiplash.

Rollover Accidents

Rollover accidents typically happen when automobiles slip on icy or wet streets, or a driver loses control navigating a sharp curve. This result in the vehicle flipping over onto its roof or side.

Rollovers are generally rare but can be catastrophic when they do occur. Many survivors have reported spinal cord and head injuries, along with broken bones.

Head-on Collisions

When two vehicles collide front to front, this is referred to as a head-on collision. This is a common type of accident on highways and other high-speed roads, such as those in rural areas. They can be quite serious, and many times lead to fatalities.

Other injuries that occur due to these types of car accidents include damage to internal organs, brain injuries, and spinal cord damage.
