In the early hours of September 13th, 2023, a devastating accident took place on Victoria Ave, Riverside, which left one individual dead and another hospitalized.
At approximately 12:06 a.m., emergency services, including the Riverside Police Department and Riverside Fire Department, were summoned to 10191 Victoria Ave in response to reports of a vehicle collision. Upon arrival, the first responders found a severely damaged truck that had crashed into a palm tree.
Inside the truck were two occupants. The driver, despite the heavy impact, was still alive but sustained serious injuries. Without delay, the paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital. His condition and the nature of his injuries remain undisclosed. Tragically, the passenger in the truck didn’t survive the crash and was declared dead on the scene.
Initial reports from officers present at the scene provide a bleak picture of the events leading up to the crash. It’s believed that the truck was driving at an excessive speed in the wrong direction down Victoria Ave – a one-way road. The aftermath video of the incident clearly shows the truck facing the opposite direction to the flow of traffic, further supporting this theory.
Adding to the complexity of the investigation, officers are probing into whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. If substantiated, this could lead to severe legal repercussions for the driver.
As of now, it’s understood that no other vehicles were involved in the unfortunate incident.
The Riverside Police Department’s major accident investigation team has taken charge of the case. They will be analyzing all available evidence, including CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and vehicle diagnostics, to piece together the events of that night.
